HIDDEN CARIES - A MAIN FIELD OF APPLICATION FOR CARIES DETECTION
HIDDEN CARIES
As simple as it sounds, caries is difficult or impossible to detect with the naked eye and tends to develop in secret. We check regularly in order to detect caries at an early stage and successively eliminate it completely. It is sometimes barely visible on the outside and already causes great damage inside the tooth. I, as your dentist, examine these places under the light of caries diagnosis.

FISSURE CARIES - INCONSPICUOUS BUT SERIOUS
Fissure caries progresses slowly and often, unfortunately, completely unnoticed. That is what makes it so dangerous. But even recognizable fissure caries is often vastly underestimated by dentists in terms of its extent. Since the affected areas are mostly below the tooth surface, they are hardly exposed to external influences and therefore cause little or no discomfort. Neither superficial nor revealed by X-rays, a small carious canal can quickly spread deeper into the tooth and ultimately lead to tooth death.
DETECT AND REMOVE CARIES ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS HIDDEN
Hidden caries is sometimes difficult to detect even on an X-ray. Finding caries well and then removing it thoroughly requires some experience. Although carious tooth substance is softer and usually somewhat darker than the healthy tooth whiteness, these indications are not particularly reliable clues for the dentist to clearly detect the smallest residual amounts of carious substance. Complete removal of caries is important to protect the tooth from further damage. However, it is also important because tooth replacement is usually required after caries removal. And this should replace 100% of the affected tooth substance. The smallest residual amounts reduce the durability of the denture and spread again

FACELIGHT MAKES CARIES VISIBLE
Caries detection with the Facelight system causes caries to light up reddish as soon as you work with the system, as shown in the example on the right. We check regularly to detect caries at an early stage and successively eliminate it completely.
